HASSET AWARD 2007

2RAR’s Corporal Justin Huggett is the recipient of the RAR Foundation’s Hassett Award for 2007.
The award is presented to Cpl Huggett as Best Junior Leader in the Royal Australian Regiment, awarded for Cpl Huggett’s performance on operations in Afghanistan during 2006. The Governor General Major General Michael Jeffery presented Cpl Huggett with the award at a dinner function held at Government House, Canberra on October 30th, 2007.

The trophy is named for General Sir Francis Hassett whose career included posts to The Middle east, New Guinea and Bougainville during WW2, command of 3RAR in Korea, command of troops Malaya, and later appointment as Chief of the Defence Force Staff, in a career highlighted by exemplary leadership.

Congratulations to Cpl Huggett on his award, which was inaugurated by the Royal Australian Regiment Foundation in 2006.

Naked Army’s Bardia figurine is the basis for the award’s perpetual trophy, and our 1ATF figurine for the annual trophy, to be kept by each successive winner.

Naked Army was privileged to attend the Hassett Award evening - many thanks to RSM Colin Swinbourn for being a patient & genial guide on top of his official duties on the night.
